Testosterone FAQ’s

Let’s talk about men’s health

  • What is testosterone?

Testosterone is the most important male sex hormone for sex drive, strength & reproduction. Unfortunately, in the past two decades, men’s testosterone levels have decreased dramatically.
These modern-day testosterone imbalances can be caused by exposure to xenoestrogens which are found in our diet & environment. Xenoestrogens are “fake” estrogens which can be found in chemicals, pesticides, body care products, plastics & even in our tap water.
Low testosterone can affect men’s health with symptoms ranging from agitation, anxiety, low libido, erectile dysfunctions, low self esteem, decreased fertility and even heart problems. Also, muscle gain can be disturbed, eventually leading to atrophy (breakdown) of the muscles.
Note: A lot of medications such as cholesterol lowering medications (statins), antihypertensive medication, anti inflammatory medicines & hypnotics (sleeping pills) can adversely influence your testosterone levels. If you are taking any prescribed medicine, always educate yourself about the side effects (e.g. ask your pharmacist) & if possible, discuss alternatives with your healthcare practitioner.

  • What is estrogen?

Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone responsible for the development of the female reproductive system & sex characteristics. Men do have smaller amounts of estrogen within their body, as do women have smaller amounts of testosterone, but when there is excess amounts of estrogen, this can throw out of balance men’s testosterone levels.
Some foods are known to contain phytoestrogens (plant compounds that mimic estrogen) such as soy (which is often hidden in wheat bread & flour products) & hops (e.g. in beer) which are highly estrogenic & can reduce men’s sex drive.

  • What can I do to enhance my testosterone levels?

A holistic approach to men’s health
We believe that detoxifying the systems of your body is the first step in achieving your health goals if you are aiming to enhance your testosterone & energy levels. As we are exposed to so many xenoestrogens, environmental toxins, etc. in our everyday life, we recommend a systematic full body detox which includes cleansing the bowels, the liver & the blood, in order to reset your body & optimise your reproductive organs & bodily functions.
We emphasise the importance of lifestyle & diet and therefore we advocate consuming organic (non-sprayed), wholesome, plant sourced living foods & drinking pure, steam distilled or natural spring water which will help you to stay away from xenoestrogens. Avoid CRAP foods such as refined carbohydrates (white bread, white flour, white sugar etc.), soft drinks, polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarines, alcohol, table salt etc.
We highly encourage implementing the S.T.A.R.T A N.E.W principles in your daily routine which include adequate exposure to sunshine, increasing oxygen intake through regular exercise & right breathing techniques, strength training, hydrotherapy etc.
